MLS Commissioner Don Garber has made clear his views on Aron Winter's decision to close the post-game locker room at Toronto FC: He won't allow it. According to a story at TSN, Garber said media will be allowed into the TFC locker room for their next game against the San Jose Earthquakes.
Don Garber Puts Fut Down: Toronto FC Must Allow Press Access To Locker Rooms
“We recognize that many coaches come from a European environment where there’s less access to the locker-rooms because that’s the culture,” Garber told The Canadian Press. “Well, that’s not the culture that exists in North American sport.
“One of the great aspects of our industry is the symbiotic relationship that exists between the media and pro sports teams. It’s a partnership, together, to grow the game.”
In explaining his decision to close the locker room, Winter pointed out that teams in other parts of the world do it that way and that he wanted to create a “real football environment.” He also called the locker room a sanctuary.
