As soon as Manchester City took the lead, I think everyone realised that they would hold it. Despite Tottenham Hotspur spending most of the second half on the attack, City made Peter Crouch's first half own goal stand thanks to some stout defending and one excellent save from Joe Hart, who kept Steven Pienaar's close range header out to keep the hosts' advantage intact shortly after the break.
Manchester City Vs. Tottenham Hotspur Final Score: City Win 1-0 To Clinch Champions League Spot
The first half was dominated by Manchester City save for a short spell immediately before the opener, and despite an obvious weakness on the City left where Aaron Lennon was running amok, the rest of the defence held firm, with an especially brilliant performance by England U-21 right back Micah Richards. Carlos Tevez, who came on for a cameo with a few minutes left, nearly put a cherry on top of the victory for the hosts with a very late strike, but was denied by Carlo Cudicini in the Tottenham goal with the last kick of the game.
City won't mind that their talisman failed to net that one - they've now sealed a spot in the Champions League for next season and are just two points behind Arsenal in third place. Tottenham, meanwhile, remain entrenched in sixth spot and are in real danger of failing to even qualify for the Europa League next season, a very disappoiting result for a team that was chasing a top four spot all season long.
