Manchester United have earned their 19th league title by earning a draw against Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park. They are now seven points clear of second-place Chelsea with just two games left, leaving the Premier League crown mathematically theirs.
Blackburn Rovers Vs. Manchester United: Wayne Rooney Penalty Clinches Draw, Title
Although Blackburn scored int he first half and came close to doubling their lead a number of times, most notably when Martin Olsen hit the post, United got back into things with a contentious penalty that was eventually converted by Wayne Rooney after Paul Robinson was adjudged to have fouled Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez. There are questions about whether Chicharito dived (he probably didn't) or whether or not the ball was out of play when the foul occurred (it probably wasn't), but when the deliberation came to an end Rooney stepped up to blast the ball past Paul Robinson, and that was that.
Blackburn showed little interest in attempting to get the winner, and allowed United to spend the last ten minutes of the match playing keep-ball. That suited the Champions no end. So, number nineteen for Manchester United - one more, of course, than Liverpool have managed - and the players and fans are celebrating like... well, like you'd expect them to on such a momentous occasion. That's an incredible accomplishment for the most successful team in English football.
