Lazio Vs. Genoa, Italian Serie A: 4-2 Full Time

Lazio are still hoping from a slip-up by Udinese to allow them to sneak into fourth place in Serie A and the final UEFA Champions League place in the league, but they moved one step closer to their goal of obtaining Champions League football this afternoon with a 4-2 win over a tough Genoa side. The visitors matched them in the first half, but Lazio were clearly the better side in the second half, and they achieved an important win through some great finishing.

Giuseppe Biava opened the scoring in the 7th minute, heading in a Cristian Ledesma corner kick. Their lead didn't last long, though, and Genoa put together a great move to create an equalizer. Dropping back into midfield in the 12th minute, Floro Flores did some great work to get the ball, then set up Mauro Boselli for a shot. Fernando Muslera made a great save, but the ball fell to Rodrigo Palacio, who finished the rebound brilliantly to draw his team level.

Lazio would take over in the second half, though, as they scored three goals in the first 20 minutes of the period. Tommaso Rocchi scored the go-ahead goal in the 52nd minute with a shot through the legs of Eduardo, assisted by Ledesma. Genoa’s defending was terrible on the move, and they allowed Rocchi to walk right into the penalty area with the ball.

Hernanes would add another goal in the 55th minute, finishing a cross into the center of the box by Ledesma, who picked up his third assist of the match. In the 66th, Hernanes put the icing on the cake with another goal, this one assisted by Mauro Zarate. Floro Flores added a consolation goal in the 89th on a corner kick, but it will hardly put a damper on Lazio’s day, as they were brilliant in their victory.
