One half of the Liguilla final is now set, as Pumas UNAM have defeated Chivas de Guadalajara in their 2011 Clausura Liguilla semifinal, sending them into the final where they will face the winner of the Cruz Azul-Monarcas Morelia semifinal tie. Both teams were able to create a number of chances in a very up and down game, and both goalkeepers were absolutely brilliant. As good as Luis Michel was, Alejandro Palacios did an absolutely incredible job to earn his shutout in a man of the match performance.
Pumas Vs. Chivas, 2011 Liguilla: Pumas Advance With Home Win
The first goal was scored in the first half by Javier Cortes on a free kick, and at that point it became an uphill battle for Chivas, who drew the first leg 1-1 at home. With Chivas needing to commit everyone forward, some serious gaps were opened up for Pumas to attack on the counter. Michel shut down almost all of their chances, but he wasn’t able to stop Pumas in the 75th minute, when Dante Lopez tapped home an easy finish on the counter, created by Dario Veron.
Pumas now await the results of the second semifinal, which kicks off at 9 pm ET on Sunday night.
