Atlético Madrid president Enrique Cerezo responded to Sergio Aguero's public comments yesterday requesting a transfer from the club by insisting the forward is not for sale.
Atlético Madrid’s President Insists Sergio ‘Kun’ Aguero Is Not For Sale
In comments made on Radio Marca, Cerezo was forceful in his opinions about the situation.
We are not going to change our thinking. We will not sell or trade for Aguero. If anyone wants to know something new, ask him directly. There is no getting around it. El Kun has a signed contract. He has shown his desire to leave, but we say the same thing. We do not want to sell. We respect his decision, but he also has to respect ours. He has a commitment to us
There is believed to be a €45 million buyout clause in Aguero's new contract he signed in January that was supposed to keep him with Atlético through 2014. Reports say he signed the deal with the understanding that he would be allow to make a big money move in the summer. Aguero has been one of Atlético's top performers since joining the club in 2006 and with the likely departure of Diego Forlan in the summer, losing Aguero as well would be a big blow.
Cerezo also said in his interview that the club was unaware of where Aguero wants to go, but stressed that there had been no official contact from another club concerning the forward. Aguero has already been linked with Real Madrid and several Serie A clubs, so expect a report having him moving to Manchester City by the end of the day...just kidding, I hope.
