Agent: Arsenal And Spurs Both Willing To Meet Release Clause For Falcao

According to Falcao's agent, both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Porto's start striker Radamel Falcao and are willing to meet the £26 million release clause in his contract. The North London rivals are both looking to bolster their squads this summer after falling short of their goals this season and appear to have targeted arguably Europe's hottest striker.

Falcao helped Porto win the Europa League this season with 17 goals in the competition, breaking Jurgen Klinsmann’s record of 15 goals in any UEFA competition. He scored another 16 times for Porto in the league, helping them take that title as well.

“England are crazy about Falcao,” Claudio Mossi, Falcao’s agent, said. “Among the leading candidates are Arsenal and Tottenham. They are willing to hit the €30 million clause. The figure is not an extraordinary value for them.”

Porto have admitted that the release clause in Falcao's contract is too low and they are negotiating a new contract with the Colombian. He is being chased by some of the world's biggest clubs and both Arsenal and Spurs have a need at striker. It's becoming increasingly difficult for Arsenal to be dependent on the oft-injured Robin van Persie, while Spurs' lack of a quality striker may have cost them a spot in the Champions League.

It is not as if Falcao is looking for any excuse to leave Porto though. He has stated that he would be happy to stay with the club and with the club qualified for the Champions League next season he will not be out of the spotlight. Mossi made that point as well, adding that his client has not ruled out staying at Porto.

“He is very happy at Porto,” Mossi said. “There he can play the Champions next year. The problem is that every day he is linked with other clubs. It is important that he is left alone for a time with his family now to decide.”
