Manchester City goalkeeper Shay Given, who has been relegated to backup duty behind Joe Hart, has made it clear that he would like to move somewhere that he can play. The top team on his wish list appears to be Celtic, the club that the Irishman grew up supporting.
Shay Given Tells Celtic To Come Get Him
“Celtic is a fantastic club but it’s too soon to say what’s going to happen or if that’s going to happen,” Given told The Sun. “But you never say never when Celtic come calling. It’s no secret I’m a big Celtic supporter and have been all my life. I don’t know what their goalkeeping situation is.
“Ideally, I would like to be playing but it’s out of my hands. If Manchester City want me, I’ve got another two years left on my contract. I don’t really know what’s going to happen.”
Given spent 12 seasons at Newcastle United before moving to Manchester City in 2009. He spent one season as the team's top keeper, helping the team finish fifth in the English Premier League. He was passed up by Hart prior to this season though and spent the season on the bench.
Celtic finished second in the Scottish Premier League this season, behind rivals Rangers. Fraser Forster was their first-choice goalkeeper, but he was on loan from Newcastle and there appears to be an opening for Given to join the club.
