After a fantastic complete performance over 180 minutes, Universidad Catolica are deservedly through to the quarterfinals of the 2011 Copa Libertadores, thanks to a 3-1 aggregate defeat of Gremio. The in-form team from Chile will face Peñarol in the next round, and their performances so far this year suggest that they are not a fluke, but a team that very much deserves to be in this stage of the tournament.
Universidad Catolica Vs. Gremio: UC Advance 3-1 On Aggregate
UC won 2-1 away in Brazil, so all of the pressure was on Gremio to attack this evening. They failed to create any clear cut chances until the very end of the game, as UC defended perfectly for most of the game. Though they didn't need it, they scored an insurance goal in the 85th minute, when Francisco Silva chipped a ball into the box for Milovan Mirosevic, who headed the ball into the back of the net.
The quarterfinal tie between UC and Peñarol should be an interesting one, as both teams are very adept at counter-attacking down the flanks, and both teams often make that the focal point of their game.
