ESPN Soccernet is claiming that Sunderland manager Steve Bruce is ready to cash in on the Jordan Henderson windfall by targeting a trio of Manchester United players, revealing (somewhat pompously, it must be said) that Bruce has 'confirmed exclusively of ESPNSoccernet' that Wes Brown, John O'Shea and Darron Gibson are the subject of a combined £12M bid.
Sunderland AFC Transfer Rumors: Darron Gibson, Wes Brown And John O’Shea Subject To Combined £12M Bid
Apparently, Bruce is on holiday in Portugal nd thus not going to make any ‘official comments’ until this is wrapped up, making his remarks appearing Soccernet unofficial non-comments (i.e. there aren’t any quotes). But considering all the buzz that’s been going around regarding Sunderland trying to add depth to the squad after what happened towards the end of last season as well as Bruce’s good working relationship with Sir Alex Ferguson, this doesn’t really seem so far-fetched. O’Shea and Brown in particular can provide some versatility in defence and Gibson can act as midfield depth and perhaps even start at the Stadium of Light.
Even with the acquisition of David Ngog from Liverpool as a makeweight in the Henderson transfer, it still seems as though Bruce must be on the lookout for another striker. Fortunately for Sunderland, he's still got most of the funds from the sale of Darren Bent to Aston Villa in January to play with. Unfortunately for Sunderland, they might rather just have Bent.
