Santos FC and Chelsea have been in discussion over a possible move for much-hyped wonderkid Neymar, say reports on ESPN Soccernet.
Chelsea FC Transfer Rumors: Blues Told Neymar Will Cost £41m
The talented youngster has been watched by virtually all of Europe’s top clubs and is widely regarded to be one of the brightest young prospects in the world. Chelsea have been one name that has repeatedly cropped up when mentioning a European move for the youngster, and have allegedly been quoted an eye-watering £41m for the striker.
It remains to be seen whether it will be a good move or not for either party concerned. Chelsea, though in desperate need of a new spark of creativity, and an injection of youth, are reasonably well-stocked on forward players, particularly strikers, with Fernando Torres, Didier Drogba, Nicolas Anelka, and Daniel Sturridge all vying for one of the forward spots, along with Florent Malouda and Salomon Kalou if Chelsea stick to the 4-3-3 formation they have used for the past few years.
With the London club in more pressing need of a right-back and midfield creativity, a move for Neymar would signify a renewed desire to spend by billionaire owner Roman Abramovich, and would surely be the first of several big-name signings to move to Stamford Bridge. But with Chelsea still some way short of complying with UEFA’s impending Financial Fair Play rules, whether they will be prepared to meet Santos’ considerable demands for the teenager is questionable.
