Maybe even more fun than seeing who starts for any all-star game is figuring out who the biggest and most egregious snubs are. In the case of Major League Soccer’s All-Star Game, we get to take that a step further because only six players from each team were nominated.
Major League Soccer All-Star Voting: Notable Snubs
Dynamo Theory, for instance, takes umbrage with Andre Hainault being left off:
Wait a second...where the hell is Andre Hainault? He’s only been the best defender on the team all season and the the”prestigious” panel of media members that nominated a total of 108 players for this ballot left him off. As if the game isn’t pointless enough, they can’t even get the damn ballot right. Given the coverage given to MLS by the mainstream media, I find it hard to believe that the all the people receiving the ballot have a clue who half the players they voted for even are. If they did, Hainault would be on it.
The Brotherly Game points out the oddity that leads to three forward were nominated from a team that is primarily built around defense. They would have rather seen guys like Sheanon Williams, Carlos Valdez and Jordan Harvey nominated:
Despite the Union starting either only one or two strikers per game, the Union have three out of the four strikers who have started a game for the team on the list Jack McInerney, who made his first start this season for the Union against the Colorado Rapids, was the only striker left off. Justin Mapp's play of late has certainly earned him the right to be on the list, but his early season play makes him much less of a worthy listing than Harvey, Williams or Valdes.
