Arsenal Transfer Rumors: Wenger Says Gunners Will Buy Defender

It appears as if Arsene Wenger will address the Arsenal's issues at the back with the Gunners' manager saying that he will bring a defender into the club before the transfer window closes. Arsenal had problems at the back a year ago and while they've signed Gervinho, they haven't addressed the back line yet. Add in the sale of Gael Clichy and bringing in a defender becomes all the more important for Wenger's side.

“Certainly, we will have to find one more defender,” Wenger told Arsenal’s official website. “We [are] working on it. I don’t want to comment individually because I do not want to destabilize clubs. I do not want to do to other clubs what some clubs do to us so I wouldn’t like to comment individually on any player.”

The most recent rumors have Phil Jagielka linked to a North London move and while Arsenal have bid £12 million before for the central defender, Everton are supposedly demanding £20 million. Bolton's Gary Cahill and Blackburn's Chris Samba have also been linked to an Emirates move, but it does not appear is if the Gunners are close to finalizing a deal for anyone.
