Roma look like they might have themselves a new goalkeeper and it's the man they have been after all summer. The club is close to a deal to buy Netherlands international Maarten Stekelenburg from Ajax according to the keeper's agent. Roma had a €5 million bid rejected by Ajax earlier this summer so it is fair to assume that the fee will be higher than that, but how much higher is still a question mark.
Roma Transfer Rumors: Maarten Stekelenburg Close To Roma Move
“We are working to close the differences,” Stekelenburg’s agent Franco Parisi told Romanews.eu. “The matter must be sorted within the next 24 hours. If it isn’t an agreement may never arrive.”
Stekelenburg is in the last year of his contract and with his stellar play for both Ajax and the Netherlands, he has drawn plenty of interest from clubs in Europe's top leagues. While Roma did finish sixth in Serie A last season, only three teams in the league surrendered more goals so they can do with some improvement at the back and Stekelenburg would help with that.
