Alianza FC Vs. FC Dallas, CONCACAF Champions League: Dallas Earn 1-0 Away Win

FC Dallas have secured their first-ever competitive international victory with a 1-0 win over Alianza FC in El Salvador. Despite a torrential downpour that was sustained through much of the match (the home fans added to the rain by throwing trash, as well), Dallas kept their footing and their cool to keep their hosts at bay and secure a crucial first-leg lead to take back to the USA.

Goalkeeper Kevin Hartman was instrumental throughout the first half, denying Alianza a number of times when they looked as though they'd penetrated the MLS team's back line - the visitors were thoroughly outplayed for much of the opening spell. Dallas did threaten, with Zach Lloyd rattling the crossbar from a Marvin Chavez delivery, but the theme of the first half was one of holding out against an experienced, smooth Alianza side and exploit their tiredness in the second.

Exploit they did. Alianza never rose to the heights of the first half following the interval, and Dallas held them off fairly easily (aside from one last-minute block by Ugo Ihemelu which probably saved a goal). Having neutralised the Alianza threat, Riccardo Villar released an onrushing Jackson, who beat his man before lifting a deft finish into Yimy Cuellar's net.

Although they had to endure some nervy moments towards the end of the game, Dallas held out. They’ll take home a 1-0 lead, and a huge advantage in their quest to qualify for the group stages of the CONCACAF Champions League.
