Arsenal seem to be facing a losing battle over captain Cesc Fabregas and influential winger Samir Nasri, and despite efforts from Arsene Wenger to prevent the departure of either player look set to lose both within the summer transfer window. Sky Sports Italia have reported that Arsenal and Manchester City have agreed a £24M fee for Nasri, who has one year remaining on the contract he signed with the Gunners after moving from Marseille in 2008, and while Sky may have jumped the gun a little on the specifics of the deal, it would come as no surprise if something was pushed through very soon.
Arsenal Transfer Rumors: Arsene Wenger To ‘Fight’ To Keep Samir Nasri & Cesc Fabregas
Meanwhile, Fabregas looks set to move back to boyhood club Barcelona after what seems like it’s been the longest pursuit of all time. I think this has gotten to the point where everyone - except Wenger, apparently - just wants to see him go, and it’d be a major surprise if he isn’t elsewhere come next season. But still, Arsenal’s manager is fighting to extract every last pound from his stars’ suitors:
Our position is the same, we want to keep Cesc and I will fight as hard as I can to keep him. Samir Nasri is exactly the same.
I imagine they wanted to keep Gael Clichy too. Wenger’s not foolwing anyone, and may be finally paying the price for six seasons without a trophy.
