A month and a half after meeting in the CONCACAF Gold Cup final the United States and Mexico will renew their rivalry in a friendly on August 10 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In that final, El Tri came back from a two-goal deficit to defeat the U.S., 4-2, and claim the confederation championship in front of more than 93,000 fans, most supporting Mexico. It is expected that the August 10 friendly will be another pro-Mexican crowd, as is always the case when El Tri play in the United States regardless of the opponent.
USA And Mexico To Renew Rivalry In August 10 Friendly
The match will be played at Lincoln Financial Field at 9 pm ET and will be broadcast live on ESPN2 and Univision in the United States. It will be the first time since 2008 that the U.S. and Mexico meet in a friendly, although they have played in two World Cup qualifiers and two Gold Cup finals since. The U.S. won the first of those four matches, but Mexico has won the last three matches to up their record against the Americans to 32-15-11 all-time.
In the last two years Mexico have assumed the position of top team in CONCACAF. Led by Javier Hernandez, Giovani dos Santos, Pablo Barrera and Andres Guardado, El Tri have what is undoubtedly the most dangerous attacking talent in the region. Meanwhile, the U.S. is in a period of transition with many of their players on the back end of their careers, but their supposed replacements still too young to make a major impact on the international stage.
