MLS Transfer Rumor: Robbie Keane Possibly Headed To LA Galaxy

Galaxy would first have to find a place to send Juan Pablo Angel before they could add Keane.

The Los Angeles Galaxy may already have their fill of three Designated Players, but that apparently isn't stopping them from closing in on a deal for Ireland's Robbie Keane. According to a report at Fox Soccer, Keane is heading to Southern California to undergo a physical and then sign a two-year, $8 million contract.

There is, of course, one major caveat. In order to make room for the 31-year-old forward, the Galaxy will first have to move Juan Pablo Angel, which is hardly an easy task. The Galaxy acquired Angel's rights in the offseason and promptly signed him to a Designated Player contract, which pays him $1.25 million this season and has at least one more year left on it. All indications are that deal is guaranteed at least for this season.

That the Galaxy would be looking to make such a swap of high-priced forwards is not entirely surprising. Angel has been a disappointment this season, scoring just three goals and being limited to 17 starts. At 35 years old, it appears age is finally catching up to the former Aston Villa star.

Keane is four years younger and has a better recent history. Last year he was limited to just 15 games in all club and international competitions, but still managed seven goals. As recently as 2009-10, he scored 28 goals in 43 competitive matches.
