Greek defender Sotirios Kyrgiakos has left Liverpool after two seasons at Anfield, joining up with Felix Magath at Wolfsburg on a two-year deal.

This will mark Kyrgiakos’ second stint in the Bundesliga - he spent two seasons with Eintracht Frankfurt between 2006 and 2008, where he made 58 appearances and scored eight goals. A solid performer with Liverpool, even if the playing time wasn’t there, Kyrgiakos will be hoping that he can replicate that form with Wolfsburg - and that he can get more time on the pitch.

It’s been reported that the centre back is heading to Bundesliga side Wolfsburg to link up with Felix Magath, but the current indications are that he’s only on trial there. If he does end up in Germany, Wolfsburg will find themselves with a solid defender with an eye for the attack. In other words, it’s a win for everyone. Liverpool shed payroll for a player they have no need for, Wolfsburg get some help, and Kyrgiakos gets to play. It’s nice when things work out.
