Well the game wasn’t pretty. Sometimes, you get 0-0 matches which are the result of tight, intelligent defending that denies each team chances and destroys any opportunity either side has to create something. For the first 86 minutes of the match between Hertha Berlin and Stuttgart, this was most emphatically not the case. Appalling defending met dreadful finishing, and the result was something of a 0-0 farce that could well have ended up at 3-3 or 4-4.
Hertha BSC Berlin Vs. VfB Stuttgart: Berlin Snatch Late Winner
Having missed several opportunities to score an easy goal from a fast break, the hosts finally managed to get something right very late on, after Patrick Ebert kept his head when picking up a rebounded shot, swinging in a cross for Rafael to head home after what seemed like the thousandth good chance of the match. Either team could have won it - Stuttgart's Shinji Okazaki was unlucky to see his first half header hit the bar - but the visitors can't feel too aggreived at having dropped points. They need to finish their chances, but out of a whopping 39 total shots in the match, only ten managed to find their way on target. Yikes.
