Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund had to settle for a draw after a goalless 90 minutes, but that doesn’t mean the match was boring. Both sides had their chances and the fast paced match did more than enough to entertain those in attendance at Bay Arena. Toss in a red card on both sides and there was plenty of action as last year’s top two teams in the Bundesliga played to a 0-0 draw.
Bayer Leverkusen Vs. Borussia Dortmund: Plenty Of Action, But No Goals At Bay Arena
The hosts looked to be the better side in the first half, generating chances and controlling the pace of play, but it didn’t result in a goal. After the break, Dortmund began to find their way into the match and several times looked to have done enough to go on top, but Bernd Leno made some fantastic saves to keep Leverkusen even.
Mario Gotze was the victim of the tackle that led to the match’s first red card when Michal Kadlec lunged in from behind on a poor challenge. The Leverkusen man was sent off for the tackle, but it was only 13 minutes later that Gotze joined him in the dressing room. Hanno Balitsch fouled the Dortmund starlet and Gotze took issue with the challenge, kicking out at Balitsch and earning himself a red card of his own.
In the end, both teams walked off the field with 10 men and one point. It’s a result neither team could really argue with considering they both had the upper hand for a half, but both teams will feel as if they have underachieved to this point, having already lost and drawn a match just four matches into the season.
