Kasey Keller's final MLS season has gone almost perfectly, but the goal he allowed in the 13th minute of the Seattle Sounders' match against Real Salt Lake will probably stick with him awhile. The veteran goalkeeper had a cross from Fabian Espindola slip through his fingers, officially going in the books as an own goal.
Seattle Sounders Vs. Real Salt Lake: Rare Kasey Keller Mistake Gives RSL 1-0 Lead
Keller was not under any pressure, with defender James Riley the closest player to him, but the ball just seemed to spin through his fingers. It was the first goal RSL had scored against the Sounders in Seattle in three years of MLS play.
Shortly after the goal, the Sounders were given a golden opportunity to tie the score when they were awarded a penalty. Mike Fucito and Robbie Russell got tangled in the box and the referee immediately pointed to the spot. But the normally reliable Mauro Rosales sent his attempt wide as goalkeeper Nick Rimando dove the opposite direction. It was the Sounders' third missed penalty of the season. They tied 0-0 in each of the previous games in which they missed penalties.
