Fredy Montero made sure the Seattle Sounders went into halftime with something to feel good about. The Sounders Designated Player scored a beautiful goal in the 2nd minute of stoppage time, collecting a Mauro Rosales cross, popping it up to himself and blasting it past Real Salt Lake goalkeeper Nick Rimando to send the game into halftime tied 1-1.
Seattle Sounders Vs. Real Salt Lake: Tied 1-1 At Halftime
That goal put a cap on what had been an absolutely crazy first half. RSL took the early lead when Kasey Keller mishandled a cross into the box and essentially threw the ball into the back of his net for an own goal. Just a few minutes later, the Sounders were awarded a questionable penalty when Mike Fucito and Jamison Olave got tangled in the box. But Mauro Rosales sent the ensuing penalty wide, missing a wide open net, to preserve RSL's lead.
That was just the beginning, though. Tony Beltran was shown a second yellow card for what looked to be a pretty innocuous foul, and referee Mark Kadlecik didn't seem to realize that he had already booked Beltran. Just four minutes later, Kadlecik showed Jhon Kennedy Hurtado a straight red for a soft foul to leave both teams with 10 men.
