There is no confirmed diagnosis for Tom Cleverely, but the early news is not good. After the midfielder went off during Manchester United's thrashing of Bolton with an apparent foot injury he was spotted in a protective boot and on crutches. Now Sir Alex Ferguson says that it appears that Cleverely has broken his foot, an injury that would be a real shame for a youngster that is really starting to get his feet under him in the Premier League.
Sir Alex Ferguson Says Tom Cleverely Appears To Have Broken Foot
“We think it is a broken foot,” said Ferguson. “It is unfortunate, but we expected it. It was a bad tackle.”
That bad tackle Ferguson is referring to came from Kevin Davies, who is rarely praised for his sporting play. Davies somehow managed to avoid a booking for the tackle, although he was booked later in the match.
If Cleverley does have a broken foot then he would be out for quite a while. Three months tends to be a common timeline for recovery from a broken foot, but this non-doctor has no access to his x-rays nor would he know how to read them so take that for what it’s worth. Broken or not, it’s a shame to see Cleverley go down, although the way United is playing it doesn’t look like it will matter much because they are borderline unstoppable at the moment.
