Santos Laguna did well to draw 1-1 against high flying Chivas Guadalajara on Saturday night, a good debut for new manager Benjamin Galindo, but it could have been so much better. Substitute striker Carlos Ochoa had a chance to score the winner in stoppage time, but missed an absolute sitter to keep the points split.

The teams came in with two completely different strategies, with Santos looking to play through their central playmaker, Daniel Ludeña, and Chivas looking to swing in crosses to their strikers. Chivas put an incredible 18 crosses into the box, but none of those resulted in a goal.
After a scoreless first half, both teams were a little more lively in the second half. Santos took the lead quickly, in the 51st minute, thanks to Rafael Figueroa. He applied the finish, but it was a close range one made fairly easy by a ball in by Ludueña and a tip by goalkeeper Luis Michel, leaving the ball on a silver platter for Figueroa to hit home.
Chivas found their equalizer on the 71st minute through a fantastic free kick by Alberto Medina. The Mexican international gave Oswaldo Sanchez little chance to make a save with his shot from 20 yards out, rescuing a point for the goats.
