Manchester United Vs. Chelsea Live, 2011 Premier League: Wayne Rooney Slips, Misses Penalty

Just when Chelsea looked like they were absolutely dead in the water, Manchester United have gifted them a lifeline. The Blues gave away a silly penalty in the 54th minute, on which United should have gone up 4-1, but Wayne Rooney slipped and missed the penalty badly, ala John Terry in the 2008 Champions League final, and Chelsea still trail by just two goals.

The penalty was an exceptionally dumb one to give away, as Nani got into the box with the ball at his feet far too easily. Ramires plus the entire Chelsea back line looked in complete shambles as Nani got into the box and shot, forcing a save out of Petr Cech. He would get the ball back, though, and was tripped from behind by Jose Bosingwa during a bit of a scramble. However, nothing came of it, thanks to Rooney's bizarre slip and shank.
