So much for the unstoppable force that is Jose Mourinho's Real Madrid, eh? Real took a weakened side to Levante and paid the price with a shocking 1-0 loss. Cristiano Ronaldo and Mesut Ozil were both benched for the match, which saw a flurry of cards in the first half - including two bookings for Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira.
Levante Vs. Real Madrid, 2011 La Liga: Levante Earn Shock 1-0 Win
The red card that followed seemingly crippled the visitors ability to build an attack, and it came as little surprise when Levante forward Arouna Kone made them pay by slotting in from close range in the second half. Ronaldo, Ozil and Gonzalo Higuain all come on to reinforce Madrid, but none of them could make a difference as they failed to break through despite owning 70% of the possesion at Cuidad de Valencia. The hosts resorted to fouling their guests to death - 36 fouls were committed in the match and eleven yellow cards (including Khedira's second) were shown by the referee.
But, as Jose Mourinho surely knows... you win however you can. And Levante won. Crisis time at the Santiago Bernabeu?
