Well, that wasn't a particularly well played or well officiated game. The La Liga match between Sevilla and Valencia was about as ridiculous a match as you'll see all season, and that's were most of the entertainment value came from. There actually wasn't a whole lot of quality in the game, but Sevilla deserved their 1-0 win. They had the one real good moment of quality in the match, while Valencia failed to capitalize on numerous opportunities and a long period of time with an advantage.
Sevilla Vs. Valencia Live, 2011 La Liga: Full Time, Ref Loses The Plot In Sevilla Win
Sevilla’s goal came in the 18th minute on the counter attack, with Jesus Navas assisting Frederic Kanoute, who finished with a hard shot into the back of the net from 12 yards out. The rest of the first half was rather uneventful, but things would get crazy in the second.
Piotr Trochowski managed to get himself sent off for a second yellow card in the 56th minute before Julien Escudé picked up a red of his own for denying a clear goal scoring opportunity in the penalty area in the 68th minute. Though they were down a goal, a point was a guarantee and a win likely at that point for Valencia. Instead, everything went pear shaped for them from that point on. Ever Banega missed his penalty, then Aritz Aduriz got himself sent off in the 71st minute for 'stomping' on Coke. In reality, Aduriz returned the slight step on the toes that Coke gave him seconds earlier, which lead to a dive by Coke and a red for Aduriz.
Valencia failed to score during the rest of the match and walked away from Sevilla with no points, which is exactly what they deserved from this poor performance.
