At the end of Thursday's encounter between the Philadelphia Union and DC United, the MLS playoff picture could look very different. The Union could be sitting atop the Eastern Conference or United could be comfortably in a playoff position.

Both teams have some key players left out of the starting lineup, though. The Union are starting with Freddy Adu on the bench in his first game playing against United since returning to MLS. Adu, of course, broke in with United as a 14-year-old, but never came close to fulfilling expectations. United, meanwhile, will be without Charlie Davies, who was left at home with a stomach virus.
