The LA Galaxy have re-signed Designated Player David Beckham, the team announced on Wednesday. The deal will be for two years and reports from England suggest the deal will be worth about $7.5 million a year.
LA Galaxy Re-Sign David Beckham To Two-Year Contract
Although Beckham’s tenure with the Galaxy has not been entirely without incident, it’s hard to see it as anything but successful. The Galaxy became just the second MLS team since 2003 to win the Supporters’ Shield and the MLS Cup in the same season this year. That was the second time the Galaxy had been to the MLS Cup since Beckham signed in 2006. It was also the second straight year the Galaxy had won the Supporters’ Shield.
“This was an important decision for me,” Galaxy midfielder David Beckham said in a team release. “I had many offers from clubs from around the world, however, I’m still passionate about playing in America and winning trophies with the Galaxy.”
One of those offers was, reportedly, for as much as $18 million from Paris Saint-Germain. That Beckham was in such large demand was clearly a product of his 2011. Not only did Beckham help lead the Galaxy to one of the greatest seasons in MLS history, but he also contributed a league-leading 15 assists. The Galaxy went 19-5-10 with 67 points.
