Siena Vs. Lazio, 2012 Serie A: Bianconeri Lay Waste To The Eagles

If Lazio want to compete for a Scudetto, they will need to do a complete 180 from what transpired on Saturday evening. Siena put on a fantastic performance at home, taking Lazio to the cleaners in a 4-0 demolition. With regular goalkeeper Federico Marchetti out with an injury, Albano Bizarri stepped in and was an absolute disaster, letting in one goal that Marchetti would have saved, then getting sent off at the end of the first half.

The first goal was the one that Bizarri should have stopped, scored by Mattia Destro in the 11th minute. Picking up a pass from Luca Rossettini on the right side of the penalty area, he hit a shot towards the far post that Bizarri reacted to slowly, letting the ball go into the back of the net. Lazio dug themselves a deeper hole in the 35th minute, when Marius Stankevicius gave away a penalty, fouling Franco Brienza in the box. Emanuele Calaiò stepped up and converted, putting his side up 2-0.

Bizarri effectively ended his team's chances of coming back in the game just before the stroke of halftime, when he picked up a straight red card for denying Destro a clear goal-scoring opportunity. Calaiò stepped up and scored again, slotting past substitute goalkeeper Juan Pablo Carrizo.

Siena decided to sit on their lead in the second half and avoided pushing too many men forward, but Destro would complete a brace in the 81st minute with a brilliant headed goal, assisted by a Cristiano Del Grosso cross. With their win, Siena have moved themselves six points off the drop zone while Lazio are likely to fall further out of a Champions League place.
