Montreal Impact vs. New England Revolution: Final score 0-1, Revs get outplayed, but still manage to win

New England spent most of the match clearing the ball out of their own box, but a goal by A.J. Soares delivered them a win in the final game of the season.

The New England Revolution spent the entire match clearing the ball out of their own box. They had nothing going forward and the Montreal Impact just pummeled them, but the Canadians couldn't turn it into a goal. That proved costly because the Revs finally got a chance and they made it count when A.J. Soares rose up and snapped a header past Troy Perkins to earn the visitors a 1-0 win in the season finale for both teams.

To say that the Revs never showed any inclination to attack would be an understatement. They were completely devoid of options and dominated in the midfield as the Impact played fantastic. They were able to use the flanks to get crosses in and went right down the middle on a few occasions to turn the Revs defense inside out. New England was left to just clear their lines, which proved effective, but it always felt like a goal was coming for Montreal.

It wasn't to be, though. The Impact never made their dominance count and when the Revs got a free kick near the endline, Chris Tierney whipped in a great ball. It found Soares, whose header left Perkins no chance and handed the Revs a win that will at least send them into the offseason on a high note.
