Kickers Offenbach vs. Fortuna Düsseldorf, 2012 DFB Pokal: Final score 2-0, Offenbach pulls the upset

Kickers Offenbach pulled off the big upset in third round of the DFB Pokal as the third division side advance to the quarterfinals.

Kickers Offenbach pulled off the big upset of the third round with a 2-0 victory over Fortuna Düsseldorf. This is the second Bundesliga side that Offenbach have beaten in this competition, and they will be the only 3.Liga side taking part in the quarterfinals this year.

The match started slowly and was quite boring throughout the first half with neither side generating a legitimate goal scoring chance. Düsseldorf failed to get Dani Schahin and Robbie Kruse engaged enough to find a goal.

Offenbach grabbed the first goal of the match in the 76th minute. Andre Hahn’s shot was successfully blocked by Fabian Giefer. He only parried the shot as far as Mathias Fetsch, and the forward put in the rebound to make it 1-0.

Düsseldorf shut down mentally, and Offenbach capitalized ten minutes later. Nicolas Feldhahn played a nice ball to Stefan Vogler who scored to make it 2-0 and sent the stadium into a frenzy.
