Iker Casillas benched: Real Madrid captain out of the lineup against Malaga

Real Madrid have picked a goalkeeper other than Iker Casillas for tactical reasons for the first time in over a decade.

Spain and Real Madrid captain Iker Casillas hasn't been the best version of himself for nearly a year, but it was still hard to imagine a day where he wouldn't be selected to start in goal for Madrid when fully fit. The day where his manager believed his team had the best chance to win without Casillas between the sticks has finally come, and he will sit on the bench for tactical reasons for the first time in a decade when Real Madrid face Malaga.

Malaga starting lineup (4-2-3-1): Willy; Nacho Monreal, Martin Demichelis, Sergio Sanchez, Jesus Gamez; Ignacio Camacho, Francisco Portillo; Eliseu, Isco, Joaquin; Javier Saviola

Real Madrid starting lineup (4-2-3-1): Antonio Adan; Michael Essien, Pepe, Sergio Ramos, Alvaro Arbeloa; Xabi Alonso, Sami Khedira; Cristiano Ronaldo, Mesut Özil, Angel Di Maria; Karim Benzema

Antonio Adan probably never dreamed that his opportunity to start for Real Madrid, as their true first choice goalkeeper, could have ever come so soon. Kickoff is at 8 p.m. local time, 2 p.m. ET from La Rosaleda and the game can be seen on beIN Sport in the United States.
