Fabrice Muamba Out Of Bed And Eating

Fabrice Muamba is well on the road to recovery at the London Chest Hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest during a match nine days ago. The Bolton Wanderers midfielder, who was described as 'effectively dead' for 78 minutes by the club's medics, is now able to get out of bed for short periods and has started to eat again, according to a statement released by the club:

Fabrice Muamba remains in intensive care at the London chest hospital where his condition is serious but stable. He continues to make encouraging progress in his recovery. Over the weekend he has been able to sit out of bed for a short time, watch television and has begun to eat. However, he will need to continue to be closely monitored by the medical team for some time.

Muamba, apparently, was able to stay awake long enough to watch part of the highlights of Bolton's win against Blackburn Rovers on Match of the Day last weekend, and according to manager Owen Coyle he's been able to finally take in some of the goodwill that's been pouring in from around the world. It's fantastic to see the 23-year-old doing so well after a very scary situation.
