Fabrice Muamba Discharged From Hospital
All of the news since the incident has been positive, with Muamba’s doctors reporting that progress has gone much better than expected and that a normal life is ‘within the spectrum’ of possible outcomes. It’s unclear when - or if - the 24-year-old, who doctors have described as medically dead for 78 minutes, will return to playing football, but he’s well on the road to recovery, which is exceptionally good news.

It’s an absolutely stunning turn of events following what was an incredibly scary situation on the pitch. Muamba collapsed with nobody around him and medics were seen immediately rushing to his aid. Reports indicated the medical crews on-site were working to resuscitate him with a defibrillator both on the pitch and on the way to the hospital, and it appears the efforts worked.

It was clear immediately the Muamba was not suffering from a regular injury. The medical staff was not treating him as they would a normal injury and if that didn’t give it away, the players sure did. Players had their hands over their faces and looked to be in shock as Muamba was treated on the pitch. Their minds were clearly not on football and with both teams more preoccupied with getting notice on Muamba’s condition, the only sensible decision was to abandon the match.
Once Muamba was stretchered off, he was immediately put in an ambulance and taken to the hospital. Speculation has ranged from him suffering a heart attack to a seizure, but there is no concrete news of his condition.
