Chicago Fire Sign Brazilian Midfielder Alex Monteiro De Lima

The Chicago Fire already have plenty of attacking options, but they'll get at least one more when the summer transfer window opens on June 27. That's when Brazilian midfielder Alex Monteiro De Lima will be eligible to play for the Fire after they announced his signing on Thursday.

"Alex is a special player that we’re proud to add to our roster," Fire coach Frank Klopas said in a team release. "After having the opportunity to see him play for Wohlen last year, Alex joined us for part of our preseason where he showed the ability to contribute to our club."

De Lima most recently played for FC Wohlen, a team in Switzerland’s second division. De Lima played about 1,600 minutes there this year, scoring a pair of goals. A year earlier, the 23-year-old scored four goals in 1,790 minutes.
