Chicago Fire Vs. Sporting Kansas City, 2012 MLS: Sporting Drop Second Straight

Sporting Kansas City have lost for the second straight game, but with no disrespect intended to the Chicago Fire, this loss had more to do with Sporting's mistakes than anything brilliant that was created by the home side. Kansas City took a first half lead and held that lead until the 60th minute, when they proceeded to throw the game away in a matter of two minutes. Chicago took advantage, and went on to win 2-1.

Bobby Convey scored the game's first goal in the 31st minute, finishing off a cross by Roger Espinoza. That attack and goal came just one minute after an unfortunate injury for the Fire, which forced starting defender Arne Friedrich to leave the game. The Fire defense might not have been completely sorted out after the sub, and Friedrich's injury was likely at least partially responsible for the goal.

Sporting were in control until the 60th minute, when Aurlien Collin gave away a penalty, hauling down Dominic Oduro in the box. Sebastian Grazzini stepped up and buried the spot kick, leveling the score at 1-1. Just one minute later, Grazzini became the victim of an elbow by Espinoza, for which the Honduran international received a straight red card.

With their opponents down to 10 men, the Fire took control of the match and finally made the most of that advantage in the 81st minute. Patrick Nyarko set up the goal, capitalizing on a bad giveaway by Kei Kamara and slotting a pass to Oduro, who finished the chance to seal a 2-1 win for the Fire.
