L.A. Galaxy Vs. San Jose Earthquakes, 2012 MLS: Quakes Come From Behind To Shock Galaxy

No Landon Donovan, no Robbie Keane, no problem for the L.A. Galaxy. They were 2-0 up at home with just 15 minutes to play and all was looking good, but then the last 15 minutes happened. L.A., down to 10 men, allowed the San Jose Earthquakes to score three times in the final 15 minutes to pull off the shocking 3-2 win at the Home Depot Center and continue the Galaxy's struggles.

L.A. went in front just three minutes in thanks to some fine play -- that the Quakes' defending was comical helped, too. Juninho freed Chad Barrett with a good pass that put him in behind the San Jose defense. Barrett then did well to turn and feed Hector Jimenez, who made a good late run and was somehow unmarked. Jimenez then buried his shot and, with a series of quick passes and a good finish. L.A. was up 1-0.

Up a goal, the Galaxy continued to play well and looked somewhat like last year's MLS Cup winners. They weren't perfect, but they controlled the tempo of the match, David Beckham switched the field with great passes time and time again and all was well.

A 59th-minute red card to Jimenez for a bad two-footed, studs-up challenge couldn't even change the match. Not long after going down a man, L.A. broke quickly and found a second goal. Mike Magee got the ball with the San Jose defense on their heels, beat a defender, rounded Jon Busch and found the net to put L.A. up 2-0. All was good for the Galaxy.

From that point on, it was all San Jose. They took advantage of being up a man and three minutes after L.A. got their second, they got a goal back. Steven Lenhart got away from Bryan Gaul on a corner kick and beat Brian Perk with a good diving header. In the 82nd minute, Beckham was whistled for a penalty when his arm got in the way of a shot and Khari Stephenson buried it to get things level.

It looked like it would end in a 2-2 draw, but in stoppage time on the very last play of the match, A.J. DeLaGarza inexplicably let a cross bounce in the box. Perk then failed to come gather it and Alan Gordon hustled his way to the ball, headed it into the goal and San Jose had completed the comeback to leave L.A. dazed.
