FC Dallas Vs. Seattle Sounders, 2012 MLS: Fredy Montero Is Good

In case you needed any reminders, Fredy Montero once again showed that, well, he's pretty good. The Seattle Sounders forward scored a pair of goals as a halftime substitute to lead his team to a 2-0 victory over FC Dallas on Wednesday. Montero entered the match with just one goal in his first eight matches.

Montero opened the scoring in the 68th minute when he took a pass from fellow substitute Cordell Cato, cut it back inside the penalty area, fought off a defender and beat Dallas goalkeeper Kevin Hartman inside the near post. Just three minutes later, Alex Caskey sent in a cross that deflected off a Dallas defender and right to a diving Montero, who put it past Hartman.

The win gives the Sounders 22 points, one less than current Supporters' Shield leader Real Salt Lake, who will be the their opponent on Saturday. It also runs their winning streak to a franchise-tying best five games. The last four of those matches have come in the last 12 days.

The Sounders should be close to full strength for their match against RSL. Mauro Rosales started, but came off at halftime in exchange for Montero. Osvaldo Alonso, who had been one of three Sounders to start every game, did not even suit up. Eddie Johnson, who played the whole game, and Michael Gspurning (injured) are the only two regular startes who are unlikely to play.
