The Seattle Sounders announced that they have traded midfielder Alvaro Fernandez to the Chicago Fire for allocation money. Fernandez joined the Sounders in 2010 and made 55 appearances, scoring 13 goals. There had been rumors circulating about Flaco's future with the Sounders over the past week, so the move doesn't come as a huge surprise.

The Sounders announced deal on their website and as per usual, the amount of allocation money involved in the deal will not be disclosed.

“We would like to thank Alvaro for his contributions to the club over the last two years and wish him well in the next chapter of his career with the Fire,” said Owner and General Manager Adrian Hanauer.

The Fire are in San Jose to play the Earthquakes tomorrow. No word whether Fernandez will meet up with the team there or when they return to Chicago.

When reports came out this morning that the Sounders had signed Christian Tiffert as a Designated Player, speculation immediately started as to which of the Sounders current DPs would be moved to make room for the German. Fernandez's trade answers that question.
