Wedged in between the negative news of Lewis Holtby leaving the club and Ibrahim Afellay’s injury, Schalke had some positive news to announce. Marco Höger and the club reached a contract extension that will keep the midfielder at the club through the summer of 2016.
Marco Höger signs extension to stay at Schalke through 2016
The 23 year old midfielder signed a contract extension that will keep him at the Veltins Arena for the foreseeable future.

Sporting director Horst Heldt spoke at the press conference with Höger. “We’re delighted to have tied a young player to the club long term in Marco who is already an important player for us and is still developing.”
Höger, 23, joined Schalke in the 2011 from 2.Bundesliga side Alemannia Aachen. While he has only made seven league appearances thus far this season, he managed the score the winning goal in the Revierderby at Signal Iduna Park against Borussia Dortmund. Over the last year and a half, Höger has been deployed in the center of midfield, at right midfield, and at right back.
“I feel really happy at Schalke and I’m delighted to continue being a part of this great club over the next few years,” Höger said.
