English League Cup 2013: Quarterfinal places at stake this week

The Capital One Cup returns this week, with the remaining sides competing over a place in the quarterfinals.

Sure, it’s only the Capital One Cup, but it’s better than nothing. Maybe. 14 of the 16 remaining teams will face off on Tuesday and Wednesday this week, knowing that a win would see them into the quarterfinals of this prestigious tournament.

While the silverware may not excite, the fixture list does at least offer up some hope of entertaining football. The pick of the action will take place at the Emirates on Tuesday with Premier League table-toppers Arsenal welcoming Chelsea to north London, while Manchester United also face top-flight opposition in Norwich City.

The other three Tuesday games all feature Premier League teams away at Championship opponents, with Leicester hosting Fulham, Birmingham welcoming stoke and West Ham making the trip north to Burnley. Wednesday promises a tad more excitement as solely top-tier sides face off; Hull City meet Tottenham, and Manchester City face Newcastle. Here's the complete schedule:

All kickoffs are 7:45 p.m. local, 3:45 p.m. ET

Tuesday

Leicester City vs. Fulham
Birmingham City vs. Stoke City
Manchester United vs. Norwich City
Burnley vs. West Ham United
Arsenal vs. Chelsea

Wednesday

Tottenham Hotspur vs. Hull City
Newcastle United vs. Manchester City.

The two other sides left in the competition, Sunderland and Southampton, meet at the Stadium of Light next Wednesday.
