Schalke’s Klaas-Jan Huntelaar out against Bayern Munich

After suffering an eye injury that kept him out of the Netherlands’ match, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar will also miss Schalke’s match against Bayern Munich this weekend.

Schalke are heading to the Allianz Arena this weekend for a massive clash with Bayern Munich, but they'll have to do so without the services of Klaas-Jan Huntelaar. The striker has been ruled out of this weekend's game due to a burst blood vessel in his left eye. This is the same injury that kept him out of the Netherlands friendly with Italy on Wednesday.

Huntelaar, 29, hasn’t been able to repeat the high marks that he hit last season. After banging in 29 goals during the 2011-12 season, Huntelaar has only managed 5 this campaign. However, he’s not the only member of the Royal Blues that’s struggling. On Matchday 11, Schalke were in second place on 23 points and 7 points behind first place Bayern Munich. Entering Matchday 21, Schalke are in sixth place on 29 points and 22 points behind first place Bayern.

With Ciprian Marica also out of the Bayern match with an injury, Schalke’s quality options are limited. Jens Keller will likely either turn to Teemu Pikku or Edu to fill the void up top. Yeesh.
