La Liga Saturday: Malaga jump back into fourth, Sevilla downs Levante
Malaga bounced back from their poor recent league form with a 3-1 victory over Rayo Vallecano. Sevilla only need one goal to take care of Levante.
Rayo Vallecano 1-3 Malaga
Malaga moved back into fourth place for the moment with a 3-1 win over Rayo Vallecano. Malaga went ahead 1-0 in the 21st minute when Weligton was left unmarked at the post and headed home a cross from Pedro Morales. Ten minutes later Vallecano equalized after goalkeeper Wilfredo Caballero brought down Tito in the box, allowing Piti to step up and score a penalty.
Júlio Baptista scored his first goal in 18 months ten minuts into the second half to put Malaga in the lead for good. Pedro Morales secured the three points with a goal in the 86th minute.
Levante 1-0 Sevilla
Garcia Ruben’s 40th minute shot from 25-yards out was all Levante needed to leapfrog Sevilla into 10th place in the league. While Levante are unlikely to be able to make up the ground, they’re not out of the fight for a European spot, only five points out of 6th place.
