La Liga Monday: Athletic Bilbao actually win, while Betis and Getafe bore

Athletic Bilbao took another big step towards ensuring their place in the Spanish top division next season with a win over Granada. Real Betis and Getafe both failed to keep pressure on Valencia in the chase for a European spot.

There were two matches in Spain on Monday and a severe lack of goals. Despite that, both results had implications as Athletic Bilbao picked up important points, while Betis and Getafe wasted an opportunity.

Athletic Bilbao 1-0 Granada

Athletic Bilbao's season has been pretty horrible but at least it appears they won't be getting relegated as well. Their 1-0 victory over Granada moved Athletic back up to 13th place and 11 points clear of the drop zone. Aritz Aduriz's 67th minute header off a Gomez Ibai cross was the games' lone goal and all Athletic needed to secure the important victory. Granada remain four points above the relegation zone despite the lackluster performance and will still be looking for some points to secure their place in La Liga next season.

Despite combing for a ton of shots, neither Betis or Getafe could grab full points and improve their hopes of claiming a European place next season. Betis could have jumped past Valencia into 6th place with a victory but they'll have to settle for remaining two points behind with the draw.
