Bayer Leverkusen vs. Hoffenheim: Final score 5-0, It’s a Kießling and Schürrle party
Stefan Kießling and Andre Schürrle both scored twice as Bayer Leverkusen beat Hoffenheim.
Half an hour into the match, it was 2-0 Leverkusen after spectacular goals from Stefan Kießling and Andre Schürrle. The first came from Kießling in the 16th minute on an unsavable shot into the corner. Schürrle curled a spectacular shot into the corner in 31st minute.
In between the two goals, Eugen Polanski fouled Kießling in the penalty area and was sent off. Simon Rolfes stepped up to take the kick, but he was denied by Koen Casteels.
Kießling and Schürrle struck in quick succession in the second half to put the match out of reach. Kießling scored his 21st goal of the season in the 65th minute with a header, and Schürrle grabbed his 11th just four minutes later.
It wasn’t over just yet for Casteels, and Stefan Reinartz made it 5-0 in the 79th minute by scoring on a rebound.
Leverkusen remain in third place and increase their lead on fourth place Schalke to seven points. With only twelve points left to play for this season, Leverkusen can begin to count on being in the group stage of next season’s Champions League.
Hoffenheim remain in 17th place. They’re three points from the relegation playoff, and six points from escaping the relegation zone. They surely don’t want to be needing points against Borussia Dortmund on the last day of the season to avoid relegation.
