AS Roma vs. Siena, Preview: Important game at both ends of the table

With Roma still in the race for European qualification and Siena fighting for their Serie A lives, Sunday’s game at the Olimpico could have serious ramifications on the league table.

AS Roma only managed a 1-1 draw with the soon-to-be-relegated Pescara in their last match, and the giallorossi are now two points adrift of the Europa League places after Udinese saw off Cagliari on Saturday evening. Having only won one of their last four games, caretaker coach Aurelio Andreazzoli has to impress in the final few matches if he wants to keep his job.

However, Siena won't prove to be easy opponents. They're a place and a point place outside the relegation zone, and have only lost once in their last six. Striker Innocent Emeghara has netted seven times in 12 matches, firing the robur up the table and towards safety, with coach Beppe Iachini excelling after taking over from Serse Cosmi in December.

For Roma, Brazilian trio Dodô, Marquinhos and Marquinho are out injured, and Mattia Destro is unavailable due to suspension. Maarten Stekelenburg has picked up a late thigh injury and could be out. That means that Lithuanian teenager Tomas Švedkauskas may make his first team debut. If not, it'll be Uruguayan Mauro Goicoechea who steps into the breach.

As for Siena, Alessio Sestu, Nicola Pozzi and Carlos Matheu are out with injury, as the Tuscans look to record their second consecutive away win and their first at Roma since 2005.
