Stuttgart vs. Greuther Fürth: Final score 0-2, Fürth show pride

With neither side have much to play for on Saturday, Greuther Fürth showed some pride despite being relegated and beat Stuttgart 2-0.

Despite being relegated back to the 2.Bundesliga last week, Greuther Fürth showed some pride by beating Stuttgart 2-0 on Saturday. While Stuttgart may not have had a lot to play for this weekend, dropping more points at home won’t please Bruno Labbadia.

While they dominated possession in the first half, Stuttgart came away with nothing to show for it. They put together a barrage of shots at Wolfgang Hesl’s goal but were unable to break the deadlock. Ibrahima Traore came the closest, but his shot banged against the post.

The second half started miserably for Stuttgart, as Gotoku Sakai scored an own goal when he tried to clear the ball. Stuttgart nearly found an equalizer a few minutes later, but that would be their last real chance of the match.

Antonio Rüdiger was sent off in the 74th minute, and a penalty was awarded to Fürth. Sven Ulreich kept Stuttgart in the game by saving Bernd Nehrig’s attempt. Fürth sought out another goal and were finally rewarded in the 89th minute. Ilir Azemi tapped in a pass from Edgar Prib to make it 2-0 and give Fürth their fourth win away from home this season.

Stuttgart are sitting comfortably in 12th place safe from relegation. They qualified for next season's Europa League by making the final of the DFB Pokal, since Bayern Munich are already in the Champions League. Fürth don't have a lot to play for in their remaining matches after being relegated last weekend. Yours truly is hoping that they manage a victory at home in their last one of the season.
