Eugenio Corini made three changes to his Chievo side that lost to Genoa last week, Nicolas Frey, Bostjan Cesar and Cyril Thereau coming in for Gennaro Sardo, Paul Papp and Adrian Stoian. Ivo Pulga made four changes to the team that suffered a defeat to Udinese, bringing in Luca Rossettini, Daniele Dessena, Albin Ekdal and Nenen playing in place of Lorenz Ariaudo, Federico Casarini, Thiago Ribeiro and the suspended Mauricio Pinilla.
Chievo vs. Cagliari, Final Score 0-0: Bore draw pleases nobody
Chievo and Cagliari played out a goalless draw, with barely a chance created between the sides in an encounter with a distinctive end-of-season feel.
On occasion, these end-of-season encounters between two teams without relegation worries but just out of reach of European qualification can be entertaining, with two carefree sides battling it out simply for the love of playing. This was not one of those occasions.
It started promisingly enough, Marco Sau forcing an third-minute save out of Christian Puggioni in the Chievo goal after a slip from Dario Dainelli allowed him to get in behind.
After this however, the match really petered out after this and although Chievo were on top, were unable to even create any real scoring opportunities. Alberto Paloschi had a couple of decent chances flagged for offside but in truth the match was played at a leisurely pace with neither side looking particularly intent on scoring.
This carried on into the second half, Chievo forcing a series of corners but never actually threatening and the match slid out into a draw, despite Radja Nainggolan coming close with a long-range drive in the final moments.
